good steel for a combat knife?
i am looking for a fixed blade combat knife. ive seen one that i like and it is of AUS 8 steel and i want to know if it is a good steel for a combat knife. And which steels are good for combat knife. i am looking for a tough, resistant combat knife steel.
Get a SEAL PUP by SOG. They aren't flashy or fancy but they are great knives. I've beaten the heck out of mine and it's gotten me through the last two years (including one in iraq) without missing a beat. When it comes to knives, don't get really fancy stuff. It defeats they're purpose. Get decently priced tough durable stuff that you aren't afraid to break and replace if necessary.

Just for good reference though, in my honest opinion, the very best combination is a really High Quality folder plus a high grade multi-tool. SOG easily makes the best multi tools hands down. They are easily superior to gerbers in construction quality. Between the two you can spend a hundred fifty bucks and be set for the next few years. It's just the most convenient combo. And it doesn't get in the way when it matters.
