Bringing pen knife to school?
My son is in 8th grade and brought one of those swiss army knives to school for a friend. Someone in the locker room saw it and turned him in. We have an appointment to see the principal this morning.
One of 2 scenarios can happen:
1. Principal knows my son is honor roll, never in trouble and an avid fisherman and was being stupid by bringing it to school so detention, perhaps several days of detention
2. school policy says no weapons. suspension with possibility of police being called in and a police report filed. does not matter who the kid is, what their behavioral history is. policy is policy
I respect the school's decision and told my son what he did was boneheaded.
But anyone out there have any experience?
Doesn't really matter that the kid was honor roll. The rules are very simple and he broke them which shows a blatant disregard for authority. If he's popular they will probably make an example of him to the other students. The worst thing you can do is defend or minimize his behavior to him and the school department. My kid is an avid hunter but doesn't bring guns or knives to school, he knows that's wrong.
